WATCH: Albert Almora Jr. homers after thinking he’d drawn a walk

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Cubs outfielder Albert Almora Jr. thought that he had drawn a walk on Tuesday. Fortunately for Almora, he was wrong.

Almora took a 3-1 pitch for what he thought was ball four from Miami Marlins starter Caleb Smith. Only, the pitch was called a strike. On the 3-2 pitch, he smacked a low line drive over the left-center field wall for a two-run home run.

Things don’t always work out as we plan them. And for Almora, that was a very good thing.

We hope he remembered to thank the home plate umpire as he was crossing the plate.
