Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian is currently at home recovering from heart surgery, the program announced Tuesday.
Alabama released a statement announcing the procedure, which was shared by Brett McMurphy of Stadium:
“The Alabama football coaching staff participates in an annual executive physical. During Coach Sarkisian’s physical last week, it was determined that he needed a procedure to correct a congenital cardiovascular anomaly before it became an issue. Coach Sarkisian underwent a successful procedure this past Thursday (July 2) in Birmingham. He is back home in Tuscaloosa and is expected to make a full recovery.”
Sarkisian is 46 years old. There was no mention of any timetable for his recovery.
Back in 2016, Sarkisian joined Nick Saban’s staff as the offensive coordinator. Then he took the same job with the Atlanta Falcons from 2017-18 before re-joining Saban at Alabama for the 2019 season.
Under his guidance, the Alabama offense put up prodigious stats last season.
Assuming Sarkisian is able to recover in time for the coming 2020 college football season, we expect the Crimson Tide to continue putting up big offensive numbers as they vie for another title.
