Alabama AD shoots down rumors that USC game will be canceled

Alabama-USC game

We have absolutely no idea if the 2020 college football season will kickoff in late August as scheduled.

There’s a lot of moving parts during the ongoing pandemic. That includes conference commissioners indicating that it will be hard for campuses to host games when said campuses are not open for on-site education.

Meanwhile, the state of California’s college system noted earlier this week that campuses will not be open to students during the fall semester.

This has led to speculation that Alabama’s game against the USC Trojans slated for Labor Day weekend could be canceled with the Crimson Tide taking on Texas Christian instead.

USC Athletic Director Mike Bohn already shot down this rumor.

His counterpart with the Crimson Tide, Greg Byrne, is following suit.

“I’m not saying fake news or anything like that because I think the media is really got an important job they’re trying to do the very best they can,” Byrne said, via AL.com. “They’ve got a lot of great people in the media trying to try and do that on a daily basis, but at the same time to. Let’s be patient.”

He was careful not to use the term fake news, but later made it clear that no such cancellation is in the cards right now.

“It’s like, I heard we’re, we’re playing TCU, instead of USC to start the football season, and that was how I received it,” Byrne continued. “And I said, ‘Really? That’s news to me. I guess, I’m not sure what I missed that contract come across my desk.”

Notice the sarcasm here? It appears that Byrne had no idea that his football program had canceled the USC game and rescheduled with Texas Christian.

Either way, the AD did note that everything is fluid right now and it’s important to remain patient. There’s still some time to figure this out before the college football season starts.
