Al Horford reportedly will not re-sign with Celtics in free agency

In a major shift, Al Horford, who recently opted out of his player option for 2019-20, will reportedly not be re-signing with the Boston Celtics.

When news broke that Horford was opting out to become a free agent, it was reported that he would be trying to re-sign with Boston. However, Steve Bulpett of the Boston Globe reported Tuesday night that Horford is now “expected to sign a 4-year free agent contract elsewhere.”

It sure seems like the Celtics are striking out left and right these days. They were pushing to trade for Anthony Davis, who ended up in Los Angeles. Kyrie Irving is reportedly set to sign with the Brooklyn Nets. And now, Horford is reportedly moving on as well.

It’s going to be fascinating to see what general manager Danny Ainge can do to keep his roster stacked with talent enough to compete in the Eastern Conference.
