Even after the San Francisco 49ers disposed of the St. Louis Rams 31-17 on Monday Night Football, 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks had absolutely no idea who he was going up against in the game.
The veteran linebacker had this to say when posed with a question about how Rams quarterback Austin Davis played in the game (via Bay Area Sports Guy).
Q: Ahmad, is there a difference from seeing Austin Davis on film and actually seeing him for the first time on the field?
Brooks: That’s the quarterback, right?
Q: Right, yeah.
Brooks: Cause they asked me earlier. No disrespect, but I didn’t know who he was talking about.
Davis, who completed half of his pass attempts in the worst outing of his young career, was coming into the game as the talk of the town in St. Louis. San Francisco recponded by sacking him five times and completely dominating on the defensive side of the ball after the Rams put up two first quarter touchdowns.
It might not have been meant as disrespect on Brooks part, but you know full well that if he thought Davis was a viable quarterback, he would have remembered Davis’ name.
These two teams will square off in just three weeks, which means Davis has a chance to make sure 49ers’ defenders remember his name moving forward.
