WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry recently went into great detail about what WWE would gain, and the massive hit AEW would take if Chris Jericho returns to the promotion that made him a wrestling legend.
For the last few months, rumors have swirled that Jericho’s run in AEW could be coming to an unceremonious conclusion. In the spring, the former AEW champion was written off television so he could go on tour with his band Fozzy. However, when the tour ended, reports suggested there were no plans in place to bring him back to TV.
Eventually, rumors spread that he was being purposefully held off TV because his contract was set to expire this year, and he was unlikely to re-sign. When asked about his future in the company, CEO Tony Khan continues to say he would like Jericho to stay. However, the world around the industry is that all signs point to the multi-time WWE champ returning home.
Mark Henry: ‘Chris Jericho should be a high-up at WWE creative
Jericho was a very important individual in the company’s growth as a talent in front of the camera. But there has always been talk about his immense value backstage. During a recent interview with TMZ Sports, former AEW advisor and WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry explained the massive value “Y2J” brings creatively. Something AEW would lose if he departs soon.
“Chris Jericho should be a high-up at WWE creative,” Henry began by saying (h/t Wrestle Purists). “He’s probably the most versatile and innovative guy that has wrestled in the last 20 years. He’s recreated himself so many times and made so much money that it’s ridiculous. People respect him, and they value his opinion.
“Chris could walk right into the WWE writers’ room and fit right in because he’s not a tyrant. He’s gonna ask you the question, ‘Well, why would he do that? I think that I can do this and still get away with this.’ Chris will dissect stuff and make stuff great,” he added.
“That’s what he’s done his whole career. Not just for himself but for others. If you can get Chris in the office, do it in a heartbeat. Pay the man whatever you want. He’s going to elevate the talent.”
With questions about the creative choices of WWE recently, adding someone like Jericho could help improve things for the No. 1 company in pro wrestling. Not having that sort of knowledge about talent development and making big money in the industry is something AEW should be more worried about losing.
