Tom Pelissero of NFL Network spoke with Peterson on Thursday, and the veteran back made it clear he’s raring to go for another season in the NFL.

Peterson told Pelissero he’s out to show he’s “still the best in the league.” He would welcome a chance to play for the New Orleans Saints again as they deal with the loss of Mark Ingram to open the 2018 season.

Peterson also said he’s been cleared by multiple doctors to play following the neck injury that forced him out of last season.

If truth be told it’s been a few years since Peterson was the league’s best, and he’s had just one stellar season since the end of the 2013 campaign, which came in 2015. Since then he missed most of the 2016 season with a knee injury, and then last year he flamed out with the New Orleans Saints before having a bit of success with the Arizona Cardinals prior to the neck injury.

It’s not surprising that Peterson still thinks he can play at a high level. Just last season, he made it clear he wants to play another four or five seasons. Whether that’s something that he can make happen remains to be seen. That said, we fully expect Peterson to land on a roster this summer before the season begins.
