NBA commissioner Adam Silver appeared with Rachel Nichols on ESPN’s SportsCenter Wednesday night and shared an interesting idea.

Dave McMenamin of ESPN passed it along on Twitter, noting Silver said the NBA has discussed having a one-off All-Star type game that could act as both a fundraiser and entertainment during the league’s suspended season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Given that some of the major cities around the United States have gone into shutdown mode as the threat of COVID-19 has become more and more dire by the day, it seems like this would not be happening any time soon. But as the nation starts to come out of the crisis, perhaps later this summer, having that type of diversion that could also raise necessary funds to help those in need sounds like a wonderful idea.

During his interview with Nichols, Silver also said he wasn’t surprised at all that four Brooklyn Nets players tested positive for COVID-19.

He also discussed whether the NBA will be able to get back to finish the season, but admitted he isn’t sure when it could happen.

To date, seven NBA players have tested positive for COVID-19. The season was initially put on a 30-day hold, but given the latest news coming out of the White House these days, that seems quite optimistic, if not altogether improbable.
