Who will be the New York Giants’ starting quarterback when the 2025 NFL season kicks off? It’s a mystery, even inside Giants team headquarters.

Aaron Rodgers is a free agent for the first time in his 20-year NFL career. Like all his career decisions, this one could take a while too.

Yet, the New York Giants are hoping to reach a contract agreement with the four-time NFL MVP as soon as possible, before potential backup options end up elsewhere.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Giants have “essentially told him that they want him to be their guy.” Meanwhile, Rapoport suggests the team’s backup plan appears to be Russell Wilson.

Yet, as much as the Giants want Rodgers, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in the same boat, prioritizing Rodgers, but being open to re-signing Wilson too. Ultimately, each team is waiting for Rodgers to make a decision.
