Aaron Rodgers: ‘ I don’t think next year will be my last year’

New York Jets injured quarterback Aaron Rodgers has turned his attention to 2024 and beyond after spending the last three months talking about returning to the club before the end of this season.

While Rodgers said Tuesday on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he’d be pushing to play if he felt it was feasible — and if the Jets were in contention for the playoffs — as he works his way back from a torn Achilles sustained in the season opener on Sept. 11. New York (5-9), however, was eliminated from postseason consideration after losing for the sixth time in seven games with a 30-0 setback to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

So, will next season be his final one for the four-time NFL MVP?

“I don’t think so,” Rodgers said. “I felt like when I came here that I got a renewed passion and love for the game. Everything has been amazing here. … I wanted at least two years. I feel like this year is kind of a lost year now that I only played a couple of snaps. Wasn’t able to go out there and prove what I’m capable of, what we’re capable of as a team. I don’t think next year will be my last year.”

The Jets opened the 21-day practice window for Rodgers on Nov. 29. They have until Wednesday to activate the 40-year-old from injured reserve or leave him on for the remainder of the season.
