Aaron Rodgers compares Patrick Mahomes to himself

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been the rage of the NFL thus far this season. Sure his three-interception performance last week against the Rams didn’t help his standing in the MVP race. But Mahomes continues to dominate statistically for a first-place Chiefs squad.

He’s now accounted for nearly 3,900 yards with 39 total touchdowns and 10 interceptions on the season. Needless to say, Mahomes is having one of the best sophomore campaigns in NFL history.

In talking about his counterpart, Green Bay Packers future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers compared Mahomes to himself.

How Rodgers thinks this is somehow disrespecting Mahomes is anyone’s guess. Statistically speaking, Rodgers is one of the greatest quarterbacks in league history.

Now in his 14th NFL season, the Super Bowl winner has thrown for 41,575 yards with 332 touchdowns and just 79 interceptions. For comparison’s sake, Rodgers’ 103.7 career passer rating ranks ahead of all-time greats Joe Montana, Dan Marino and Peyton Manning.

Mahomes has a long way to go before he’s even compared to Rodgers and other greats. He’ll need to continue this high level of play over multiple seasons. But the young kid surely is off to a great start.
