Aaron Rodgers medically cleared to play in Week 15 against Panthers

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers has been medically cleared to play in Week 15 against the Carolina Panthers. He announced the news on Instagram.

At 7-6 on the season, the Green Bay Packers have an outside shot at earning a playoff spot. They’d have to win out and get some help from those above them in the standings. But there’s a chance.

That’s more than we could have said prior to the past two games, both of which Green Bay won in overtime with Brett Hundley under center.

Questions came up earlier this week that suggested the Packers might want to play it close to the vest with a quarterback that suffered a broken collarbone back in Week 6. At the same time, Rodgers apparently was urging the team to activate him.

Fortunately for the Packers, Rodgers will indeed be activated from injured reserve after suffering a broken collarbone back in Week 6. He’ll be under center Sunday against the Panthers in what amounts to being a must-win outing for Rodgers and his Packers.

Green Bay had made it clear that this was always going to be a medical decision. But Rodgers himself has been pushing to play.

If he’s anywhere near 100 percent, the Packers will have a legit shot at playing meaningful January football. Green Bay boasts a 4-1 record in games that Rodgers has completed. The team is 3-5 in its other eight games. That’s the true definition of an MVP.
