76ers want LeBron James… but can’t officially say it

LeBron James heads a crazy class of NBA free agents in 2018

The Philadelphia 76ers enter the 2018 offseason with All-Star-level players in Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, but a certain LeBron James will soon be a free agent. And it’s evident that head coach Brett Brown is interested in meeting with “The King.”

When asked about potential offseason targets, per Keith Pompey of the Philly Inquirer, Brown danced around the question enough only to avoid a tampering issue.

According to a midseason report, LeBron is expected to consider the Cleveland Cavaliers, 76ers, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers over the summer.

Two years ago, the mere thought of Philadelphia being a top potential landing spot for James would’ve seemed absurd. However, “The Process” has reached an important next stage, and it absolutely should be attractive for LeBron.

Although the initial fit would be awkward — since Ben Simmons, exceptionally talented though he is, has no jumper — that’s a “problem” Brown and Co. would love to address.

Philadelphia has the cap space to pursue LeBron, and it’s clear that Brown is ready to make a pitch — even if he can’t publicly say it.
