The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly come to an agreement with free agent linebacker Kwon Alexander on a four-year deal worth up to $54 million.

It’s a lot of money to spend on a linebacker, but in today’s NFL Alexander is a coveted player due to his speed and ability to cover tight ends and running backs out of the backfield. Furthermore, the 49ers are reportedly giving him just $27 million guaranteed.

It’s a calculated gamble that Alexander will return to the form that he showed in his first two seasons as a pro.
In three-plus seasons, the former fourth-round pick out of LSU has accumulated six interceptions, six forced fumbles, seven sacks and a touchdown.
Last season, Alexander had his campaign cut short due to an ACL injury. He played in six games prior to the injury, tallying 45 tackles, one sack and two forced fumbles.
He’ll immediately slide into the starting lineup playing alongside second-year starter Fred Warner to give San Francisco a tremendous 1-2 punch in a division that requires top coverage linebackers.
