The San Francisco 49ers apparently made a push for Le’Veon Bell prior to the All-Pro running back signing with the New York Jets.
Even with the likes of Jerick McKinnon and Matt Breida in the backfield, San Francisco didn’t stop attempting to add another back.
Now, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 49ers have signed former Atlanta Falcons running back Tevin Coleman to a two-year, $10 million contract.

This move reunites the 25-year-old Coleman with his former offensive coordinator in Atlanta, current 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.
A third-round pick of the Falcons back in 2015, Coleman is coming off a career-best performance that saw him put up 1,076 total yards and nine touchdowns. He also averaged a robust 5.4 yards per touch.
It’s not yet known how the running back situation is going to play out in San Francisco. McKinnon suffered a torn ACL during the summer — months after signing a four-year, $30 million contract with the 49ers.
In his stead, Breida put up a tremendous sophomore campaign. The former undrafted back gained 1,075 total yards at a clip of 6.0 yards per touch.
