49ers RB Mike Davis gives up chips after poor rookie season

Nothing is more satisfying when you have a craving for salt than grabbing your favorite bag of chips and downing the entire bag.

However, this is a guilty pleasure that San Francisco 49ers running back Mike Davis had to give up after an underwhelming rookie campaign in 2015.

Davis’ favorite, “Flamin’ Hot Cheetos,” are now a thing of his past.

“That was like a heartbreaker,” Davis said, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN. “Man, my favorite chips were hot Cheetos and I haven’t had those in months. I have just got to stay away from chips. No type of chips at all, I’ve got to stay away from them.”

Davis’ focus is on being in better shape in his sophomore season. Per the report, Davis has ditched the junk and fried foods for fresh fruit as snacks.

As a result, a leaner Davis impressed last Sunday evening when he attained 72 yards on only five rushing attempts. This far bests the 1.7 yards yards he averaged per rush as a rookie last season.

Davis interestingly weighs more than he did last year. Though, that extra weight is attributed to more muscle in Davis’ case. And on top of making some dietary changes, Davis trained during the offseason in Los Angeles with Rams’ running back Todd Gurley.

Davis will hopefully continue with his level of play over the course of the 49ers next three preseason games. If so, the young speedster could turn up the heat on his competition in Carlos Hyde and Shaun Draughn this fall.
