Report: Jed York informed 49ers players of Jim Tomsula’s firing via text

At least they didn’t hear it from the media.

Jed York sent San Francisco 49ers players text messages to let them all know at the same time their head coach had been fired, Mindi Bach of CSN Bay Area reports.

Doesn’t that just warm the cockles of your heart?

Just hours after the team had found a way to be happy about a terrible season by beating their hated NFC rival St. Louis Rams in overtime, they all found out they’d been dumped via text. At least, that’s the way this comes across.

The 49ers have a huge rebuilding job ahead of them.

After losing about a dozen cornerstone players last year in a mass exodus of biblical proportions, the team endured a 5-11 record, a quarterback controversy, inept coaching (yes, Tomsula did need to be fired) and empty stadiums during late-season home games.

It seems only fitting that the players would find out about such monumental news via text message.

Well played, Mr. York. Well played.
