It seems like a broken record. Every time Major League Baseball gets some good news on the COVID-19 front, reports of another outbreak start to surface.

That was the case Thursday surrounding the New York Mets after two individuals within the organization, including at least one player, tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

We now have an update that can’t be considered too surprising.

Mets-Yankees weekend series postponed

As we noted when the news broke, Friday’s game had already been postponed. We can now add to more games to that list. The Mets’ entire traveling party was tested twice more after the team’s game against the Miami Marlins on Thursday was postponed.

This is yet another example of MLB’s struggles attempting to play the season amid the pandemic.

Could the MLB season be on thin ice right now?

It’s a legitimate question to ask. And it’s not being alarmist. We’ve seen multiple widespread outbreaks of the virus less than a month into the truncated 2020 season.

Miami Marlins: This squad missed over a week of action after it confirmed 17 positive COVID-19 tests following the first weekend of action. The Marlins are certainly in a difficult situation schedule-wise. That’s magnified after Thursday’s game against the Mets was postponed.

St. Louis Cardinals: As of Friday morning, St. Louis had played a grand total of 14 games compared to 24 for their division rivals in that of the Chicago Cubs. The Cardinals missed north of two weeks of action before returning this past weekend.

These are just two examples. Although, there’s plenty more right now. The hope is that the 60-game 2020 MLB season can conclude with the playoffs potentially being played in a bubble.

As of right now, there’s no guarantees on this front.
