LISTEN: MLB should keep moving forward in the face of COVID

MLB COVID-19

Major League Baseball (MLB) and the MLBPA were at odds throughout the year regarding finances for the 2020 MLB season. However, both sides were able to come to an agreement to start the season.

That said, with the 2020 season essentially a 60-game sprint to the finish, everything had to go perfectly for there to be a full season. But, less than a week after Opening Day, COVID-19 has already put the season in jeopardy.

The Miami Marlins have many positive cases for COVID-19

Following their series against the Philadelphia Phillies, 18 players of the Miami Marlins tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first outbreak within a team. It wouldn’t be the last, either, as the St. Louis Cardinals also have a full-blown outbreak on their hands as MLB tries to keep the season going amid a pandemic.

Commissioner Rob Manfred said the season will be postponed only if a team losses enough players to render it “completely non-competitive.” In light of everything that’s going on, numerous games have been postponed as MLB tries to figure out how to best continue the season.

Teams that missed games will play doubleheaders that are seven innings long. That way, teams can play close to a 60-game season in such a short time frame.
