The NASCAR community suffered a scare early during Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway when one of Ryan Blaney’s pit crew members was hit during a crash on pit road.

Early in the race, when the field came into pit road, a wreck near the entrance sent cars in every direction. That’s when driver Brennan Poole’s car accidentally swerved right into Blaney’s pit stop, making direct contact with the crew member.

After being swiped by the car, the crew member went to the ground and dragged himself to the wall. Crew members attended to him almost immediately as the wreck on pit road was slowly cleared out.

Paramedics arrived on scene moments later, loading the man onto a gurney as his fellow crew members stood around him supporting him. Fortunately, he seems to be okay as he gave a thumbs up to everyone and seemed to be in great spirits.

The pit road pile-up crash involved Poole, Corey LaJoie, Ryan Preece, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Martin Truex Jr. and Justin Allgaier.

Allgaier had been reacing in place of Jimmie Johnson, who tested positive for COVID-19 days before the race.
