It’s going to be a continuing theme around the NFL world with the league still hoping to kick off the 2020 season Sept. 10.

At least initially, it’s hard to imagine fans being in attendance for games early in the season. It’s also highly unlikely that any team will play a game at full capacity. It’s in this that we’re now seeing teams offer full refunds to season ticket holders.

Washington Football Team latest to offer season ticket refunds

“In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Washington Football Team has communicated with season ticket members about the 2020 season,” the team announced, via its official website. “The organization sent a letter to season ticket members Tuesday detailing new policies and procedures related to safety, security and ticketing. All updates were made under guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, the National Football League and Prince George’s County health officials.”

Washington went on to note that if some fans are allowed in attendance this coming season, they will be required to wear masks or other face coverings. We’ve already see at least one top-end college football program announce the very same requirement.

Will fans in be in attendance for the 2020 NFL season?

This will depend heavily on how the virus spreads in the coming weeks and months. It will also depend on local governments. As for the Washington Football Team, they play in Maryland. That state has not seen the same increase in COVID-19 cases as other regions in recent weeks.

Teams in California, Texas and Florida are highly unlikely to welcome fans this season. If other teams do make that decision, it will likely be at a 20% capacity. That obviously includes the team in Washington.
