NFL training camps remain on schedule to open July 28 amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic plaguing the United States. Whether that’s actually going to happen remains to be seen.

One high-profile figure wants to get everything right before camps open.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll open to delaying the start of training camp

“Whatever we need to do to do this right is what I hope we do,” Carroll said during an interview on ESPN 710 Seattle. “If we’ve got to slow down a little bit to get started, that would be okay. There (are) a lot of unsettled issues right now between the league and the players.”

Carroll speaks to the unsettled issues. That includes testing protocols for the virus and the number of preseason games. There’s also a financial rift waiting to happen between the players and league.

COVID-19 cases in the United States

The backdrop here is the increasing number of hot spots around the United States right now. Major states with NFL teams such as California, Florida and Texas have seen big upticks in virus cases over the past couple weeks.

Some players are not necessarily comfortable starting training camp in this environment. At the very least, they want more information from the NFL. It seems that Carroll is in that group.
