The first full slate of action is taking place around the Major League Baseball world to open the 2020 season on Friday.
The backdrop here is a widespread pandemic that is plaguing the United States at a higher clip than the rest of the world. With this has come concern that an outbreak in MLB might put a halt to an already truncated season.
As of yet we have not seen that.
Only four MLB players test positive for COVID-19 in latest round
This is absolutely great news all the way around. A total of 10,939 tests were conducted. Four players and two staff tested positive. That’s a positive test rate of 0.5 percent, far less than the general public.
We already know Washington Nationals star Juan Soto was one of those four players. He tested positive ahead of Thursday’s season opener against the New York Yankees.
Good news for the 2020 MLB season
It seems as if the social distancing and masks polices are working right now. There was obviously some concern given that the Major League Baseball season is not being conducted in a bubble like we’re seeing with the NBA and NHL.
Obviously, it’s too early to tell how this is going to impact the remainder of the 60-game season. But it’s the second consecutive week that MLB has received some tremendous news on the COVID-19 front.
