If the 2020 college football season is played this fall, it’s going to look vastly different from anything we’ve ever seen due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Conference-only games. No fans in attendance. New social distancing protocols for players. This also includes a different helmet for those on the field.

Check out the COVID-19 helmet the Texas Longhorns players will wear this coming season. It’s something else.

The visor. A complete face shield. Something that looks to be a mask covering the mouth.

That’s just all sorts of crazy right there. While it’s hard to imagine players begin able to actually breathe, I am sure Texas and the company commissioned to make these helmets took everything into account.

As of right now, the Longhorns are slated to take on South Florida in their season opener Sept. 5 in Austin. Given the current guidelines in the city and with other conferences canceling non-conference games, that matchup is highly unlikely to happen. Rather, Texas could very well open up its season against Big 12 foe Kansas State Oct. 3.
