Dodgers star David Price, who opted out, puts MLB on blast after Marlins COVID-19 outbreak

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher David Price

Los Angeles Dodgers star pitcher David Price is one of the players who opted out of the 2020 MLB season. Following the awful news that the Miami Marlins are dealing with a huge COVID-19 outbreak, he put MLB on notice with a pointed message on Twitter.

David Price says MLB didn’t put health of players first

Price put the onus on MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred to back up his words when he said the health of players was “paramount.”

He also wrote: “Part of the reason I’m at home right now is because players health wasn’t being put first. I can see that hasn’t changed.”

Marlins dealing with major COVID-19 outbreak

On Sunday, the Marlins took the field to play against the Philadelphia Phillies despite knowing they had multiple positive tests in the clubhouse. Then on Monday morning, news broke that the team more than doubled its previous total.

In short, a significant outbreak that has roughly 40% of the team’s active players in quarantine is now in place. As a result, the Marlins had to cancel their home opener — at the least.

Yankees vs. Phillies game canceled Monday

Additionally, the New York Yankees and Phillies won’t play Monday night, either after Philly took the field three days in a row against Miami.

The league is holding an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss all this.

Price isn’t the only player who has spoken out about what MLB needs to do now. Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Josh Lindblom made it clear he doesn’t feel 100% comfortable playing but is preparing to do it. He also said that someone “might need to make a hard decision.”
