In the wake of George Floyd’s death, many white quarterbacks have spoken up. San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman has taken notice.

Carson Wentz of the Philadelphia Eagles shared a strong message of support for African-Americans last week. He also condemned the “institutional racism in this country.”

Cincinnati Bengals rookie Joe Burrow also showed leadership with a simple, yet powerful tweet in the wake of Floyd’s death.

Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence also shared a message of empathy and justice.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Andy Dalton shared the following message from his Twitter account:

“I have a heaviness about everything that has gone on with George Floyd and many others,” Dalton wrote. “These racist acts are inexcusable and horrific. We have to fight against racism and not be naive to the injustice that is happening. Jesus came for people, all people, so we could experience His love and have eternal life in heaven. We were all created in His image. That makes every life valuable.”

Speaking with Albert Breer of The MMQB, Sherman opened up about how much of a positive thing this has been.

“I’m impressed with the white QBs speaking up because those are voices that carry different weight than the black voices for some people,” Sherman said. “Which means the people who refuse to listen to a black athlete’s perspective will hear the same thing said from a white athlete, but receive the message much differently. So it’s awesome that more people are speaking out, because in sports, you really have a love and appreciation for your fellow man, regardless of race.”

Sherman also said, “I think that’s what makes sports and teams so special, because a lot of the stereotypes are torn down. You really get to know one another, not judge based off nonsense.”

As for Sherman, he’s continued to express his personal views and shared his experiences with his Twitter followers.
