Report: Adam Gase ‘major factor’ in Jamal Adams requesting trade from Jets

New York Jets safety Jamal Adams

New York Jets All-Pro safety Jamal Adams has made it clear in more ways than one he wants out of dodge.

The former top-10 pick just recently requested a trade from the team after months of contractual issues. We’re now hearing some more when it comes to Adams’ unhappiness, and it’s not terribly shocking.

Adam Gase “major factor” in Jamal Adams requesting trade from Jets

Again, this isn’t anywhere near a surprise. Gase has had his issues with star Jets players since he was hired to be their head coach ahead of last season. That includes fellow former All-Pro, running back Le’Veon Bell.

Jamal Adams wants a new contract that will reset the NFL safety market

The Chicago Bears signed Eddie Jackson to a four-year, $58.4 million extension back in January, making him the highest-paid safety in NFL history.

It stands to reason that Adams is looking at $15-plus million annually on an extension. The No. 6 overall pick back in 2017, Adams is set to earn a base salary of just $825,000 this season. He’s under contract for 2021 with a salary of $9.86 million.

Having earned two Pro Bowl trips in his first three seasons, Adams is obviously in line for a raise. Whether that comes from the Jets or another team remains to be seen.

Jamal Adams’ trade request and list of acceptable teams

Following Adams’ trade request earlier this month, it was noted that he’d accept a trade to seven teams. This list includes a Dallas Cowboys squad that has been linked to Adams on a near never-ending loop over the past several months.

Any move to acquire Adams would likely come at a cost of multiple draft picks, including at least one first-rounder. Add in his demand for a raise, and a trade might be hard to work out before the 2020 NFL season starts.
