We continue to hear pessimistic reports about Major League Baseball being played at all this year. Even more so than the ongoing pandemic, there’s a major issue as it relates to finances between the league and its players.

Recently, multiple offers have been sent in both directions in hopes of starting a season that was suspended back in March. The players turned down a recent proposal for a 50-game season from the league. That came after the league itself turned down another proposal for a 114-game season with prorated salaries.

Now comes this piece of information from Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune indicating that there’s renewed optimism a season will start in July.

At this point, it would be a bad look for both MLB and its players if the season were canceled over finances. The United States remains in a major economic downturn with unemployment at its highest level since the Great Depression. Both sides would be seen as greedy. That’s for sure.

The two sides will also have to come to terms on a new deal here within the next week if Spring Training 2.0 is going to start later in the month and if Opening Day is to occur early in July.

Acee does make a strong point in that MLB and its players have been at a bypass multiple times over the past decade. At every turn, the two sides have been able to come to an agreement to avoid a work stoppage.

This report also comes after a big-time team executive around the Major League Baseball also expressed optimism the season will start next month.
