Amen Ogbongbemiga tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a protest in Tulsa
The junior linebacker shared the news he has tested positive for COVID-19 on Twitter:
“After attending a protest in Tulsa AND being well protective of myself, I have tested positive for COVID-19,” Ogbongbemiga wrote Tuesday. “Please, if you are going to protest, take care of yourself and stay safe.”
Ogbongbemiga is a Nigerian-born student-athlete who made his way to the United States in 2003. In 2011, he and his family moved to Canada, where he made a name for himself as a dynamic linebacker prospect.
The past three years, he’s been playing football for the Cowboys. Last season, he broke out in a big way, racking up impressive stats: 100 tackles, five sacks, one forced fumble and one interception.
Oklahoma State bringing football players back in a phased approach
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, colleges across the nation are bringing their student-athletes back as carefully as possible. Earlier on Tuesday, Oklahoma State announced a phased approach to bringing its football players back.
They’ll be allowed back on campus soon. Per Fox 25 in Stillwater, “When they report back, they will be tested for the coronavirus and then go through check-in paperwork, procedures and quarantine so they can be cleared by June 15.”
On June 15, Oklahoma State football players will be allowed to start working out in team facilities and participate in voluntary workouts.
