Following protests in San Antonio Saturday night, Lonnie Walker of the Spurs is out in the community lending a helping hand.

Walker, at the age of 21, showed tremendous care and compassion Sunday morning. Walker pitched in to help clean up some of the graffiti on buildings in downtown San Antonio.

He was also out on the streets, handing out water to workers cleaning up.

According to San Antonio Current, peaceful protests were taking place in San Antonio Saturday evening. Then, “a tense standoff erupted between a splinter group of the protestors and armed self-described protectors of the Alamo.”

After this development, police in riot gear got involved and the situation escalated. Protesters reportedly began throwing rocks and breaking shop windows downtown. As the situation continued to devolve, police shot tear gas and rubber bullets into the crowd.

“The planned demonstrations from earlier today were peaceful and the organizations did exactly what they said they would do to keep others safe,” San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said in an emailed statement. “The situation was escalated by some bad actors whose only intent was to incite violence and cause destruction. The actions of a few do not represent the majority of those who came out to peacefully demonstrate.”

After such troubling events Saturday night, it’s refreshing to see so many working to clean up the city. And of course, it’s awesome to see an NBA player pitching in.
