There has been talk of a Jamal Adams trade since last season. The New York Jets safety wants a huge new deal, but that hasn’t happened yet. So will he make a fuss and demand a trade before the season?

Jamal Adams trade reportedly won’t happen before August

Answering questions in his latest mailbag, Brian Costello of the New York Daily News addressed this issue.

“Jamal Adams trade talk is popular these days, but I don’t see the Jets trading Adams any time soon. Could things change if the contract standoff gets ugly during training camp? Yes. But I don’t think he will be traded before August and I think the trade deadline is an even more realistic time to point to.”

So at this point it seems like there won’t be any trade unless Adams really forces the issue. It’s worth noting that, despite the contract impasse, the Jets have made it clear they want to keep him and extend him. The franchise absolutely does not want to trade Adams, who is among the best at his position in the NFL.

What would a Jamal Adams contract look like?

Assuming the two sides can come together and work out a deal, Adams stands to set a new market with his contract. He is one of the league’s most dynamic playmakers at the safety position. In three years, he’s done nothing but live up to his hype as the No. 6 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft out of LSU.

Appearing in 46 games, Adams has racked up 273 tackles, 12 sacks, two interceptions, six forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and has scored two touchdowns.

With all this in mind, we can expect Adams to easily eclipse the $14.6 million-per-year average Chicago Bears safety Eddie Jackson landed on his recent contract.

Which teams could trade for Jamal Adams?

There are two teams that have been mentioned the most as being potentially interested in trading for Adams if he doesn’t ink a long-term deal with the Jets.

The Las Vegas Raiders have recently been discussed as a team that could try to make a trade for Adams. But the team everyone continues to pound as the most likely trade partner is the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys-Adams trade rumor has been going around since before the deadline last season.

Any team that does try to acquire Adams in a trade with the Jets would reportedly have to give up a king’s ransom.
