NBA owners expected to approve plan to resume season in Orlando

Things are seemingly moving fast as it relates to the NBA resuming its 2019-20 season after it was suspended back in March.

The league’s Board of Governors met with Commissioner Adam Silver on Friday to delve into plans for a resumption of the season.

While nothing came to fruition on that end, the expectation is that a final plan will ultimately be put forth next week.

Now, according to this report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Silver’s plan is expected to be approved by NBA owners next Thursday. Said plan will include resuming the season at Walt Disney World in Orlando.

There’s some bullet point information to get into here.

  • The target date for a return to the season is July 31. It would take place in a bubble city at Walt Disney World.
  • The expectation is that at least a vast majority of teams would play a few final regular season games before the playoffs get going.
  • Though, there’s some teams that would likely simply end their season right now. That includes the league-worst Golden State Warriors.
  • Even if approved by the owners, the players’ association would have to approve said deal on their end. Unlike Major League Baseball, that doesn’t seem to be a major sticking point.
