What if Tua Tagovailoa has a good year and the Miami Dolphins still end with the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft? What if Trevor Lawrence out of Clemson is coming off another monster season? Today on the NFL Reckless Speculation podcast, we’re talking about the Miami Dolphins’ 2020 season and how they would handle this situation.

AFC Championship or #1 2021 NFL Draft pick?

Tom Ernisse from DolphinsTalk.com joins TC to talk about a team that has the worst defense and the worst offensive line in 2019 could turn the page and end up in the playoffs this year. Tom – and you can follow him on the Twitter right here – believes that much more likely than the Dolphins landing the #1 overall pick in 2021.

Brian Flores is a much better head coach than Adam Gase. The Miami Dolphins are also set to enjoy the benefits of the work that was put in last year with a much more fruitful 2020 campaign. With Xavien Howard and Bryon Jones attempting to remind Dolphins fans of Patrick Surtain and Sam Madison as well as the addition of Noah Igbinoghene via the draft, Miami’s secondary is tight.

Meanwhile on offense, it’s a whole bunch of yikes. The good news is that Ryan Fitzpatrick is back just in case Tua isn’t ready to go by Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season. Though, it seems that Fitzpatrick might not be needed with news surrounding Tagovailoa being nothing but positive. The worrisome part is whether the skill players around Tua are good enough. And then there’s that awful offensive line from 2019. However, with the additions of PLAYER NAME at center, plus draft picks Austin Jackson (who may need more seasoning) and Robert Hunt, the line will be improved for Miami in 2020.

Finally, the Tom and TC talk about who’s the last great skill position player the Dolphins had on the roster, and the last great quarterback to suit up in Miami. Damn, it’s been a tough 30 years.
