Philip Rivers was the undisputed leader of the Los Angeles Chargers and could be a Hall of Famer when his career is over. Now that he and the Chargers have moved on, things will be much different.

At least one of the team’s star offensive players is excited about the new era, which will be highlighted by a distinctly different look under center.

Chargers now have mobile quarterbacks

Hunter Henry, taking care not to disrespect Rivers, is excited about having mobile quarterbacks on the roster now.

“I’m not going to downplay Philip at all,” Henry said, via The San Diego Union-Tribune. “He was unreal and a Hall of Fame quarterback. But, obviously, it opens our offense up a little bit more. You see all these quarterbacks, their escapability in the pocket.

“[There are] so many different things that you can do with a mobile quarterback that can open your offense. [I’m] looking forward to seeing that aspect of our offense grow.”

Nobody ever accused Rivers of being a mobile quarterback. Instead, he hung tough in the pocket, sometimes to his (and the offense’s) detriment. Tyrod Taylor, the presumptive starter in 2020, is very mobile. So is rookie Justin Herbert out of Oregon.

So, it’s going to be fascinating to see how the Chargers look offensively with this big change. No doubt, offensive coordinator Shane Steichen is looking forward to putting it all together.
