It’s been a hotly debated topic during the current COVID-19 pandemic plaguing North America and the rest of the world. Can sports return any time soon? If so, when?

Well, according to this report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it looks like the 2020 college football season will take place in some form.

Schefter indicated that there’s “strong conviction” around the college football world that the season will be played. Multiple scenarios are being discussed.

One thought was that the 2020 season could be playing during the spring next year. That is not among the scenarios being discussed here.

To be clear, it’s going to be difficult. California Governor Gavin Newsom provided a strong stance this past weekend on football. He does not see the NFL season starting on time in his state. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump believes that the season should start on time.

The NFL and college football go hand in hand. It’s likely that both will either start on time or be postponed. It’s not going to be one or the other.

COVID-19 is spreading at a rapid clip around the United States. As of Thursday afternoon, north of 455,000 Americans have been infected with the virus with 16,100-plus deaths.

The curve must be flattened with widespread testing before sports can even think about starting up again. Most experts agree on this.
