The Dallas Cowboys have Dak Prescott for at least one more year, and they reportedly won’t let him go elsewhere afterwards, either.
Jay Glazer of The Athletic, in his weekly mailbag session, was asked if the Cowboys might let Prescott leave after the 2020 season.
Here’s what he wrote in response:
“No, I don’t see it happening. I truly don’t believe that that would happen. I think Dak is their quarterback of the future. They know what they have in him. That position, the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, is different than any other in sports. I’ve said it here several times, it’s like the shortstop for the Yankees, the centerfielder for the Red Sox, the center for the Lakers and Celtics all wrapped up into one with how much attention the position gets.”
When you realize that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently compared Dak Prescott to his own son, Stephen Jones, Glazer’s take on this seems spot on.
Dallas tendered Prescott with the exclusive franchise tag this offseason to ensure he wouldn’t be able to talk to other teams about a long-term deal. The two sides have been working recently on getting a long-term deal done in lieu of the tag, but the latest reports on the negotiations indicate they aren’t going well.
But when push comes to shove, it is hard to imagine the ‘Boys will let Prescott hit the open market any time soon.
