The hope is that a trade involving Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams will be worked out here soon. It has been a long, drawn-out process between the two sides since Williams held out throughout the entire 2019 season.
Most recently, the seven-time Pro Bowler has been linked to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a trade for O.J. Howard. Whether that comes to fruition during this week’s draft remains to be seen.
What we do know is that the 31-year-old Williams is no longer free to seek a trade with another team on the eve of the 2020 NFL Draft starting.
This is some rather interesting stuff in that both sides were holding out hope a trade could be worked out ahead of the draft.
The annual event will see a plethora of offensive tackles selected in the top 10, decreasing the possibility that Washington could get market value in return for the future Hall of Famer.
In no way does this mean Williams won’t be traded. Rather, any discussions surrounding a potential deal will now involve the teams. That could complicate things further.
Washington had previously given Williams and his reps permission to seek a trade. Now that this is no longer the case, things could get even uglier between the two sides.
