MLB Commissioner provides sobering update on when season can start

MLB

It has been almost a month since the 2020 MLB season was scheduled to start. While it seems like a lot longer than that, there’s no telling when the season will actually get going.

Major League Baseball currently has a plan to start the season at some point in the not-so-distant future. It would take place in Arizona without fans in attendance due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic crippling the United States.

In providing an update to teams, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred could not predict with any accuracy when the season would start.

It’s a scientific consensus that sports in general will not be able to start up until widespread COVID-19 testing becomes available.

The curve needs to be flattened with the possibility of antiviral testing also going mainstream. Said test is able to show whether an individual has in the past been infected with the virus, leading to the possibility of immunity.

Either way, previous suggestions that the MLB season could start up some time within the next month can now pretty much be thrown out the window.

As previously suggested, June would have to be the most optimistic timeline in terms of a start date.
