Report: Trent Williams trade ‘not close’, Redskins asking price too high

Trent WIlliams, Redskins, trade

After granting Pro Bowl tackle Trent Williams permission to seek a trade, the Washington Redskins received plenty of inquiries from across the NFL. However, talks reportedly haven’t gone well with Washington’s asking price for Williams preventing any progress.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, a trade isn’t close to being done with the Redskins’ asking price of a second-round pick, making a deal unlikely. Until the Redskins lower their asking price for Williams, other teams can’t even begin to start focusing on an extension with Williams.

The 31-year-old offensive tackle has already drawn trade interest from the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans. Even after holding out the 2019 season, NFL teams are still lining up to add one of the NFL’s top offensive tackles to their offensive line.

But teams clearly aren’t willing to trade a second-round pick for Williams, especially since he’s reportedly seeking quarterback-like money in a contract extension.

While we still might see Williams traded this offseason, it seems likely that it will take more time before the Redskins bring down their price.
