Report: Redskins will not select Tua Tagovailoa No. 2 overall

Tua Tagovailoa NFL Draft Dolphins

There’s been suggestions in the nation’s capital that the Washington Redskins are not sold on 2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins at quarterback.

A lot of this has to do with the presence of first-year head coach Ron Rivera and a revamped Redskins front office. It also coincides with Washington selecting No. 2 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.

According to ESPN’s Todd McShay, this is nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Washington will not be selecting former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with the second pick. Rather, the team is honed in on edge rusher Chase Young.

This seems to make a lot of sense. We already know that owner Daniel Snyder is the one calling the shots in D.C. He’s high on Haskins.

As it relates to the young quarterback, he had an up and down rookie season. Despite this, it would be difficult for the Skins to pull what we saw with the Arizona Cardinals and Josh Rosen last year.

Young is considered the top defensive player in the draft and would help improve that side of the ball big time under a new coordinator in Jack Del Rio who has had success with other young edge rushers in the past.

There’s also a decent chance Washington listens to offers for the second pick. The gap has narrowed between reigning Heisman winner Joe Burrow and Tua ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft. Teams will certainly be calling the Skins up about that selection.
