Former Texans WR backs Michael Irvin, blasts Bill O’Brien

DeAndre Hopkins, Bill O'Brien

Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien has found himself in the midst of a major controversy following the shocking trade of star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

NFL Media’s Michael Irvin noted recently that O’Brien compared Hopkins to former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. It was a stunning comparison, one that drew widespread reactions around the NFL.

Hopkins has never been in trouble. Comparing him to a man that was once convicted of murder prior to killing himself is something else.

Former Texans wide receiver Jaelen Strong, who played with O’Brien in Houston for parts of three seasons, tends to agree. The free agent absolutely blasted O’Brien while bringing himself into the conversation.

O’Brien has drawn criticism for both his coaching on the field and his personnel moves as the Texans’ general manager.

We’re now starting to hear more from former players, Strong included.

Hopkins was reportedly dealt due to his relationship with O’Brien and contractual demands. In turn, the head coach has showed his true colors. It’s about ego. He’s just not good enough of a head coach to have that type of ego. It’s that simple.
