The Miami Dolphins made major news on Monday, the start of the NFL free-agent tampering period. Miami used its excess of cap room to sign Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl cornerback Byron Jones to a record-breaking contract.

We now have more information as it relates to said deal. It’s an absolute whopper.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it includes $82.5 million in total cash over five seasons with $57 million guaranteed and $40 million over the first two years.

  • The $16.5 million is $1.4 million per season more than the second highest-paid cornerback, Dolphins veteran Xavien Howard.
  • The $57 million Miami guaranteed Jones is about $10 million more than what Patrick Peterson is earning on his deal with the Arizona Cardinals.
  • Meanwhile, Jones’ total contract value of $82.5 million is $7 million more than the second highest-paid corner in the NFL.

That’s just crazy.
