Cardinals, DeAndre Hopkins have had ‘some conversations’ about his contract

DeAndre Hopkins Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals made the trade of the offseason landing DeAndre Hopkins, and now they’re starting to talk about his contract situation.

Team chairman Michael Bidwell said Tuesday that general manager Steve Keim has had “some conversations” with Hopkins about his contract, per Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.

The Texans gave Hopkins away in a trade that was so lopsided even “Madden” wouldn’t accept it. Reportedly, it had everything to do with his contract situation, as some reports indicate he is seeking upwards of $20 million per year on a new deal.

Hopkins is currently set to earn $12.5 million in 2020, with none of that money being guaranteed. So, it’s hardly surprising he wants a new deal. It’s going to be interesting to see how this all plays out. The Cardinals can obviously make some moves to free up cap space, but at this time they have just over $7.8 million in cap space, per OverTheCap.com.
