Cam Newton responds to Panthers, says he never requested a trade

Cam Newton, trade, Chargers

The Carolina Panthers took the unprecedented step on Tuesday og announcing that they have given star quarterback Cam Newton permission to seek a trade.

Deciding to make the announcement rather than let the situation play out behind the scenes was a bit odd.

The former NFL MVP has responded in kind, pointing out to the masses that he did not request a trade in the first place.

“Stop with the word play. I never asked for it. There is no dodging this one. I love the Panthers to death and will always love you guys,” Newton wrote in response to the team. “Please do not try and play me or manipulate the narrative and act like I wanted this. You forced me into this.”

Tell us how you really feel, Mr. Newton.

As it relates to the Panthers, they pretty much made it clear that Newton would be traded after hiring former Baylor head coach Matt Rhule. Owner David Tepper has not minced words on this front.

By the looks of it, Newton heading to another NFL city here soon is more the Panthers’ decision than anything else.
