The first several days of Spring Training in Florida have not been great for the defending AL East champion New York Yankees.

We already know that ace starter Luis Severino will undergo Tommy John Surgery and miss the entire 2020 season.

Now comes this bit of disturbing information surrounding former NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton. The outfielder will be out some time with a calf strain. Reports suggest that he might not even be available for Spring Training.

Stanton suffered the injury doing work on the side on Tuesday. It could be a long-term issue if he’s rushed back into action.

The 30-year-old played in just 18 games last season due to myriad of injuries. The hope here is that the 2019 campaign won’t repeat itself.

As for the Yankees, they were still able to win 103 games despite being among the most injury-plagued teams in baseball last season. They, too, hope history doesn’t repeat itself.
