Report: Knicks have discussed a trade for Lakers star Kyle Kuzma

The New York Knicks’ ship is seemingly now being run by owner James Dolan after the team parted ways with president Steve Mills earlier on Tuesday.

The timing was odd given that the NBA trade deadline is now less than 48 hours away. It also seems to suggest that general manager Scott Perry doesn’t have a huge role in the decision-making process right now.

It’s in this that Shams Charania of The Athletic is reporting that New York has had discussions about acquiring third-year Los Angeles Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma.

We’re not too sure what New York could offer the Lakers to pry the rising young star away from Los Angeles.

A report earlier on Tuesday noted that the Knicks have now made Marcus Morris available after Mills decided against putting the veteran forward on the trade block.

Even then, Morris’ $15 million cap hit would be hard for the Lakers to take on. They’d have to part ways with Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and either Avery Bradley or the injured DeMarcus Cousins to make it work.

The reality is that these Knicks seemingly have no idea what they are doing ahead of the trade deadline. Tuesday’s news only adds another layer to this.
