Report: Buccaneers have ‘legitimate’ interest in Philip Rivers

Philip G. Pavely-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one of the favored teams to sign Philip Rivers in free agency, and they reportedly have “legitimate” interest in doing just that.

ESPN’s Jenna Laine reported Monday that the “the Bucs’ interest in the eight-time Pro Bowl quarterback is legitimate.”

We know Rivers will not be returning to the Los Angeles Chargers, who are now reportedly going to go after none other than Tom Brady to replace him. We also know that Rivers and his entire family have recently moved to Florida, so playing for the Bucs would be convenient, not to mention the whole “no state taxes” thing.

Really, what it may end up boiling down to is whether the Bucs decide they want Rivers for a couple of years while grooming his replacement, or if they just want to start from scratch with a rookie in 2020.
