Patrick Mahomes chimes in on potential contract extension with Chiefs

After winning the Super Bowl and becoming the youngest quarterback in history to win Super Bowl MVP, Patrick Mahomes is already a Kansas City Chiefs legend. And if he has his way, he’ll have plenty more chances to add to that legacy in the years to come.

Speaking with the media in Miami Monday morning after celebrating all night, Mahomes made it clear that he wants to do a contract extension with the Chiefs: “I wanna be in Kansas City a long time,” Mahomes said, per Joe Chiodo of KCTV5, “I want to win a lot of football games here.”

The Chiefs coveted Mahomes ahead of the 2017 NFL Draft and traded up to land him at No. 10 overall. They have since seen him blossom into one of the most electric players in the NFL, and a guy who has been unbelievably clutch in the biggest moments.

Even before Mahomes pulled off his Super Bowl magic act, reports have been flying around that he’ll make previous quarterback contracts look like child’s play. So, the Chiefs are already planning on making him the richest quarterback in history, and that certainly does not hurt when it comes to keeping him interested in sticking around.

But it’s clear this is about more than money. Mahomes has a special relationship with head coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy, and he’s found a home in Kansas City.
