NFL world rips into Kyle Shanahan over baffling two-minute decision during Super Bowl LIV

San Francisco 49ers news: Kyle Shanahan COVID

Kyle Shanahan turned down the opportunity to score before halftime, opting not to use a timeout then running the clock out afterward, and the NFL world was aghast at his decision.

Heck, even his own general manager, John Lynch, wanted him to call timeout.

The San Francisco 49ers would have had the ball with roughly 1:30 left in the first half if he had used a timeout after the Kansas City Chiefs were forced to punt. Instead, the 49ers ran twice in a row and finally with 20 seconds left on the clock, the Chiefs called a timeout.

That’s when Shanahan suddenly shifted gears and tried to get the passing game going, but with 75 yards to go and just 20 seconds, they couldn’t do enough and went into halftime tied up, 10-10.

Shanahan’s baffling decision had fans and analysts scratching their heads.
