Colts owner on Marlon Mack: We’re not pursuing an extension

Marlon Mack

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay debunked a report that his team is currently working on an extension with running back Marlon Mack.

In a wide-ranging press conference that included some coy comments about Andrew Luck’s potential return, Irsay addressed the report, which was first shared by Jim Ayello of the Indianapolis Star.

“Marlon Mack, we love him, but we love the other two guys,” Irsay said, per Mike Chappell of FOX 59. We want him back and he wants to be back, really. There were some mis-reports that we were pursuing an extension there. That’s not the case. I don’t know where those came from.’’

The “other two guys” Irsay referred to here are Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins. Both have the ability to make big plays but have not been as consistently productive as Mack.

Mack has been the most productive running back for the Colts since the 2018 campaign. The past two seasons, he’s tallied 2,184 yards and 18 touchdowns from scrimmage. A former fourth-round pick out of South Florida, Mack will be a free agent after the 2020 season. He’s set to make just over $2.2 million this season, which is quite low for a player of his caliber.
